Advertising in Vietnam is trending toward mobile devices, with the country becoming a member of the club of nations with one billion mobile internet advertisements a quarter, according to BuzzCity, a Singapore-based mobile media company.

Last year mobile internet advertising grew at nearly 5,000 percent in the country.

It entered the list of top 10 mobile internet ad markets earlier this year, driven by increased mobile internet traffic on both Viettel and Vinaphone.

Vietnam , India , Indonesia , the US , and Brazil are the five strongest growth markets globally, with all of them also being in the one-billion club.

" Vietnam has joined the ‘Billion Club,' an elite group of countries with massive flows of consumer activity on the mobile internet," Dr K.F. Lai, CEO of BuzzCity, said.

It is obvious that the Vietnamese are fully engaged with the Internet on their mobile phones and devices, he said.

"What this means is that marketers in the country must begin thinking hard about how they are going to engage mobile-phone users.

"We recognise that TVC and traditional media still hold a lot of favour with advertisers in Vietnam , but the trend is moving towards mobile devices in a very significant way."

The global mobile advertising market shows no sign of slowing down, with BuzzCity reporting 87.1 billion ads so far, a 60 percent increase on the whole of 2010.

Southeast Asian markets delivered more than 21 percent of global advertising last quarter.

While Indonesia tops the markets in the region, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore continue to post triple-digit growths./.
