The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC) on Oct. 9 said 47 international and domestic individuals and organisations have extended relief aid in kind and cash worth nearly 36 billion VND to victims of typhoon Ketsana in Vietnam’s central region.

The same day, the society received 30,000 USD donated by the Chinese Taipei people.

Also on Oct. 9, in the central city of Da Nang , representatives of the Japanese Government handed over emergency aid, including tents, blankets, power generators and water filters, worth 20 million Yen (roughly 220,000 USD) to people in central provinces to help them recover from the typhoon.

Charge d’ Affairs of the Polish Embassy in Vietnam, Janusz Bilski, visited Da Nang on Oct. 8 and announced that Poland will send aid to the storm victims via the VRC.

Typhoon Ketsana, which swept through the Central and Central Highlands regions and is considered the most powerful storm to hit Vietnam in the past 45 years, has left 170 dead and over 600 injured./.
