Nicaraguan Acting Foreign Minister Manuel Coronel on Oct. 7 sent a message of sympathy to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, expressing his deep sympathy over the loss of human life and property in Vietnam due to typhoon Ketsana.

He affirmed his country’s solidarity with the Vietnamese people, particularly the families of Ketsana victims.

Typhoon Ketsana, which swept through the Central and Central Highlands regions and is considered the most powerful storm to hit Vietnam in the past 45 years, has left 170 dead and over 600 injured.

Meanwhile, CARE Germany-Luxembourg has given 10,000 EUR as emergency aid to help Vietnam rebuild in the aftermath of the disaster.

According to Marten Mylius, CARE Vietnam coordinator for emergency relief, his organisation has coordinated with the Vietnamese Government and a number of other organisations to help Ketsana victims in Vietnam . CARE’s first mission was sent to flooded areas to provide food and safe water to local people.

CARE Germany also opened an account at the Sparkasse bank in Bonn and called on Germans to raise funds to help Ketsana victims in Vietnam and Laos .

In Japan , the Vietnamese people living there raised 200,000 JPY (over 2,200 USD) to help Ketsana victims in their home country.

Japanese Aeon 1% club raised 5 million JPY (55,000 USD) for Vietnamese victims of the disaster./.
