In addition, according to the Department of Social Welfare under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, about 1.3 million disadvantaged people have received gifts worth 200,000 VND each from the government.
Apart from the government support, local authorities have granted gifts to the poor households and disadvantaged people. Ho Chi Minh City took the lead with 41 billion VND, followed by Hanoi with 18 billion VND and Quang Nam , 14 billion VND.
Local organisations, enterprises and benefactors have also visited needy people and offered them gifts for Tet./.
