National flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines (VA) said its VN6569 flight carrying 318 Vietnamese workers evacuated from Libya is due to land at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi at 23:00 hours on March 1.

The aircraft departed from Noi Bai International Airport earlier the same day, transporting a working delegation of Government and relevant ministries and agencies, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Doan Xuan Hung, to Egypt, to assist and collect Vietnamese labourers evacuated from unrest-ravaged Libya.

It also carried 9 tonnes of relief supplies for Vietnamese workers who are taking refuge in Egypt and surrounding countries.

Immediately after arriving in Egypt, the working delegation instructed working groups in Egypt and Malta to coordinate with Vietnamese representative agencies to provide relief aid for Vietnamese labourers.

The delegation met with Vietnamese citizens who were waiting for the Government flight in Cairo. At the meeting, Deputy Minister Hung said the Government had entrusted authorised agencies to implement numerous specific measures to help migrant workers return home safely.

At present, Vietnam Airlines is actively coordinating with the S teering Committee on Settlement of Vietnamese Citizens in the Middle East and North Africa and the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) to conduct more flights to pick up Vietnamese workers.

The second VA flight from Hanoi to Djebra in Tunisia is scheduled to take off on March 2.

By March 1, more than 6,000 Vietnamese workers had evacuated from Libya to third countries. Of these, more than 1,000 people already arrived in Vietnam with support from the Foreign Ministry, MoLISA, relevant agencies and businesses./.
