Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries last weekend by Vietnam News Agency.
-President Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a meeting with the compilation group, experts, and scientists on April 2 to look into a report summarising opinions for a project on making a strategy for the building and completion of the law-governed socialist state of Vietnam by 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The summary report, which will serve as a basis for making the first draft of the strategy, covers the fundamental theoretical issues on the building and completion of a law-governed socialist state, the Ho Chi Minh ideology, the Party and State’s viewpoints, along with the formation, facts, principles, targets, reforms, breakthroughs, orientations, tasks, and solutions for the state building and completion from now to 2030, with a vision to 2045. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting in Hanoi on April 3 to look into the electricity supply and the provision of coal and gas for power generation.
Pointing out a soaring power demand as a result of the socio-economic development and post-pandemic recovery, the Government leader said ministries, sectors, and agencies have yet to act drastically enough to carry out his official dispatch, issued on December 24 last year, on economical and efficient power use and power supply in 2022 and beyond. - Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, WTO and other international organisations in Geneva handed over Vietnam’s signed documents on its accession to the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty (WPPT) to Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang at a ceremony in Geneva on April 1.

-Vietnamese Ambassador to Slovakia Nguyen Tuan on April 1 received a delegation of the Slovak National Council, led by Chairman of its Economic Affairs Committee Peter Kremsky, to discuss economic cooperation between the two countries in the time to come. Read full story
-Vietnamese Ambassador to Andorra Dinh Toan Thang presented his credentials to the Co-Prince of Andorra, Archbishop Joan-Enric Vives i Sicília, at the Episcopal Palace in La Seu d’Urgell, Spain, on April 1.

-On behalf of the Prime Minister, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang on April 1 symbolically presented 200 tonnes of rice worth nearly 100,000 USD as a gift from the Vietnamese Government and people to the Philippines to help address Typhoon Rai’s aftermath. -Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien met with South African Ambassador Mpetjane Kgaogelo Lekgoro on April 2, saying that Vietnam is now in urgent need of diversifying coal supply sources as it is promoting post-pandemic economic recovery.
At the working session in Hanoi, Dien noted despite the COVID-19 pandemic, trade between the two countries remains stable, at over 1.39 billion USD. South Africa is currently the largest trade partner and export market of Vietnam in Africa. Read full story
- The Government has issued an action plan to implement the Politburo’s Resolution dated January 28, 2022, on developing coastal central Khanh Hoa province by 2030 with a vision to 2045.
Among the targets for 2025, this resolution aims at local per capita gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of 104 million VND (over 4,500 USD), an urbanisation rate of 65 percent, non-agricultural workers accounting for 77.97 percent of the local workforce, and a rate of trained workers at 85 percent. -Vegetable and fruit exports plunged 9.6 percent year-on-year to 508 million USD in the first two months of 2022 due to a sharp decrease in shipments to China, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
However, Vietnamese vegetables and fruits enjoyed strong growth in other major markets, such as the US (79 percent), the Republic of Korea (32 percent), Japan (12 percent), Australia (45.7 percent), and the Netherlands (51.5 percent). Read full story
-Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai signed a decision on April 1, approving the addition of 449 billion VND (19.66 million USD) to the organisation budget of the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31).

-Le Huu Toan has become the first Vietnamese boxer named in the world top 10 of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
