- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued a new decision assigning lead responsibilities to key ministries to drive the UK – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) forward.

- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang on January 19 received non-resident foreign ambassadors who are in Vietnam to attend the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

- Secretary-General of the Communist Party of Switzerland (CPS) Massimiliano Ay expected the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) to consolidate its position on the international stage, noting that the Party’s experience is rich and deserves wider recognition from the West.
In an interview with a Viet Nam News Agency (VNA) correspondent in Geneva, Massimiliano Ay proposed meetings between European communist parties and Vietnamese institutions, along with training courses and knowledge updates in political and ideological work, as well as exchanges in more specific areas. He stressed that socialist countries need to support one another and share experience more effectively, while making their voices heard internationally. - Vietravel Airlines announced on January 19 that it will inaugurate a Ho Chi Minh City – Vinh service on February 1, 2026, marking its first route linking to the north-central region.

- The Secretariat for the ASEAN Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Network will be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to Malaysian Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
The official was quoted by local media as saying that ASEAN Digital Ministers endorsed the Declaration on the Establishment of the ASEAN AI Safety Network, as adopted by ASEAN Heads of Government at the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur in 2025. Read full story
- The People’s Committee of Phu Quoc Special Zone in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang is accelerating the implementation of projects serving the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in 2027 (APEC 2027).

- Ho Chi Minh City is intensifying the enforcement of regulations on vessel monitoring system (VMS) installed on fishing vessels, as part of urgent efforts to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc has requested relevant departments, agencies and local authorities to synchronously implement management, inspection, supervision and sanctioning measures related to VMS, with a focus on addressing outstanding shortcomings in legal compliance and fulfilling pressing tasks in fighting IUU fishing in the city.
