The Z189 Factory under the General Department of Defence Industry held a ceremony in the northern port city of Hai Phong on October 25 to hand over a modern multifunctional ship to the Vietnam Marine Police (VMP) High Command.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung urged the VMP to promptly operate the ship DN 2000 well, and fulfil its assigned tasks in all situations.

The Z189 Factory was asked to coordinate in maintaining the ship and continue studying and giving consultations to further develop Vietnam’s ship-building industry.

The DN 2000 is now the region’s most modern marine police ship built using the design and technology of the Netherlands’ Damen Shipyards Group. Having a helipad, it is able to operate in bad weather.

Once operational, the ship will contribute to strengthening the capacity and efficiency of patrolling, inspecting and protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty over its sea, islands and continental shelf, as well as timely implementing search and rescue activities and preventing lawbreaking behaviours.

It is also expected to join vessels of other countries in joint patrols to maintain peace, security, order and stability at sea.-VNA
