German conductor Gudni A. Emilsson and pianist Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy joined the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra to perform at the Hanoi Opera House on March 14 and 15.

Their performances are part of a programme to mark the 35th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic ties and “the German Year in Vietnam ” and “the Vietnam Year in Germany ” 2010.

They performed Schubert’s Overture D.591 in C major “In the Italian Style”, Mozart’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in C minor K.491 and Haydn’s Symphony No. 104 in D Major, or “ London ” symphony.

Gudni A. Emilsson has served as artistic director of the Tubinger Chamber Orchestra since 1999, the Camerata Bohemica Prague since 2005 and the new Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra.

Emilsson has been awarded prizes from the Herbert von Karajan Foundation and the Richard Wagner Foundation, and received a certificate of merit from the Deutschen Musikrat.

A graduate of the Saar University of Music, Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy has won numerous prizes at international piano competitions./.
