Hanoi (VNA) – A total of 35 suspects involved in violent attacks targeting three border stations in Maungtaw, Rakhine state, on October 9 have been arrested, according to Myanmar’s Myawaddy news.

Suspects were arrested when the government’s troops carried out an operation in the villages of Wetpyin, Aung Mingalar and Yetwinkkyun in Maungtaw last weekend.

The suspects are being interrogated.

Earlier, the army said 25 attackers were killed in the army’s operation in Rakhine state on November 11.

A series of gunfire exchanges burst out after nine policemen and five soldiers were killed in attacks carried out by armed men targeting three border stations on October 9.

Myanmar authorities said that extremists engaged in the attacks with financial assistance from foreign terrorist organisations.-VNA
