The Myanmar Union Election Commission (UEC) has announced constituencies for the country’s upcoming 2015 general election scheduled for the end of October or beginning of November this year.

According to a UEC announcement published on July 3, 330 constituencies are set for election of the House of Representatives (Lower House), 168 constituencies for the House of Nationalities (Upper House), 644 constituencies for Regional or State Parliaments and 29 constituencies for Regional or State Parliaments for National Races.

This year’s general election will elect representatives for the parliament’s next term in begining 2016.

The current government, which took office in March 2011, will be replaced in March 2016.

The UEC also released procedures for international observers to participate in the election.

Accordingly, international observers are to submit applications to the UEC starting from the formal announcement of the election date until 15 days before election day and are allowed to carry out their observation only in the designated areas proposed in their plans submitted to the UEC.

The UEC has requested international observers report their observation results within 60 days.-VNA
