Myanmar President U Thein Sein on March 26 pledged that his government will go ahead with its planned democratic transition.

U Thein Sein made the promise during a speech in parliament in Nay Pyi Taw, on the third anniversary of his government’s accession to power.

He stressed Myanmar has reaped many strong achievements in the democratic transition from military to civilian governance.

In the face of international scepticism about his government’s intention to pursue the path to full democracy, the president said he has never deviated from his plan to make Myanmar a democratic state.

He called on ethnic groups, the armed forces and all official political parties to participate in the country’s democratic process.-VNA
