Myanmar is ready for the 27th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), with tickets for the opening as well as closing ceremonies at the 30,000-seat Wunna Theikdi stadium in Nay Pyi Taw already sold out, according to local media.

All preparations for the event, which is slated to begin on December 11, have been completed and all competition venues have been inspected and approved by Asian and ASEAN sports officials, said U Htay Aung of the host country.

Some competitions already began on December 1, such as floor ball.

Sports competitions at the 27th SEA Games will be held in Myanmar’s four main cities in December, Myanmar media reported on November 21.

Apart from the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw with 28 sports categories, Yangon will host seven including Kampo, bodybuilding, weightlifting, wrestling, hockey, shooting, and Group B matches of men's football.

Mandalay and Pathein cities will each host one category.

The Games are scheduled to take place from December 11 to 22 with 460 sets of medals at stake.

Vietnam will send a combined team of 750 athletes and officials to the Games, where they will compete in 29 of 33 sports events at the tournament, hoping to bring home at least 70 gold medals, said officials.

Football teams were the first to arrive in Nay Pyi Taw on November 26, while the largest group from the delegation will leave for the competition on December 4.

At the last SEA Games held in Jakarta two years ago, Vietnam ranked third, winning 96 gold medals, trailing the host Indonesia with 182 and Thailand with 109.-VNA
