The 7 th regular session of Myanmar's Union Parliament began in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw on July 1 as a follow-up of separate sessions of the two Houses last week.

The session was attended by 600 out of 646 parliament members.

In the opening speech, Speaker of the Union Parliament U Khin Aung Myint called on parliament members to raise their spirit of serving the public.

According to the agenda, the parliament will discuss efforts to join the World Bank's Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency - MIGA Convention and the Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property.

In addition, the delegates will debate a bill on the Central Bank of Myanmar among others.

In the framework of the session, the National Defence and Security Council will meet to discuss the peace process of the government's Peace Making Committee as requested earlier by Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House) U Shwe Mann.

The 11-member council was formed in March 2011 with President U Thein Sein being its chairman.-VNA
