Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on November 9 in Hanoi hosted a reception for a high-ranking delegation of country executive directors from the World Bank (WB).

During the meeting, the Chairman praised the WB’s contributions and affirmed the bank’s assistance helped Vietnam come close to achieving the United Nations’ Millennium Goals and begin implementing the UN’s sustainable development programmes, which was passed at the UN’s General Assembly in September.

He recommended the WB to extend preferential loans to Vietnam as well as assist Vietnam to deal with climate change.

Vietnam has issued and implemented policies on poverty alleviation and new rural programmes focusing on farmers but the country needs financial assistance and consultation from international organisations, including the WB, he said.
