National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong visited the southernmost province of Ca Mau from December 8-9 as the next leg of his tour to southern provinces to inspect preparations for the 11 th National Party Congress.

Speaking at a working session with the provincial leaders, the NA chairman said that experiences from real situations in localities are very necessary and useful for both the central and provincial levels to complete draft documents to be submitted to the 11 th National Party Congress. He noted that the discussions also help the province define orientations for its sustainable and long-term development.

The province’s report showed that the implementation of the party and state’s policies over the past 20 years has created remarkable changes for the province especially in the industrial, agricultural and sea-based economies.

Several important state-invested projects, including the Ca Mau Gas-Electricity-Fertiliser Complex, the prolonged Ho Chi Minh Road and the Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway, had strong influence on the province’s socio-economic development.

Ca Mau province reported a continuously increasing economic growth over the past years. Its 2009 GDP growth rate is expected to be 4.2 times higher than 1997.

On the occasion, Trong visited the Ca Mau Gas-Electricity-Fertiliser Complex, a national structure built to meet the country’s increasing demand for energy and serve the industrialization and modernization of agriculture in rural areas./.
