Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang presented reports on law violations and crime prevention as well as the implementation of the National Assembly (NA)’s Resolution No. 37/2012/QH13 at the NA’s October 28 working session.

Public security and economic management-related crimes in 2013 increased 5.19 percent in the number of cases and 7.53 percent in the number of defendants compared to the previous year.

Corruption offences saw rises of 12.9 percent in the number of cases and 15.56 percent in defendants, said Minister Quang.

He reported that most embezzlement and bribery cases were found in the fields of public asset management, public investment, land use and management, investment for basic construction, and health.
Many cases of discharging untreated waste water into the environment and violations of food safety regulations were brought to light.

He stressed crime cases are getting more complex and that increasing unemployment and moral degradation are the major causes behind the increase in criminal offences.

The Minister, however, noted that the situation is basically managed.

Also on the day, NA deputies heard reports delivered by Procurator General of the Vietnam Supreme People’s Procuracy Nguyen Hoa Binh and Chief Judge of the Vietnam Supreme People’s Court Truong Hoa Binh on the two sectors’ works in recent time and the implementation of the NA’s Resolution No. 37/2012/QH13 in their agencies.

At the end of the session, Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong reported on law enforcement, while Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung made a presentation of the draft amendment to the Law on Customs.
