A Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) delegation led by Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu paid a working visit to the US and Canada from March 12-16 to enhance their relations and exchange experiences in law-making and supervising.

In Washington , the delegation had working sessions with Senator Patrick Leahy, Chairman of the United States Senate Judiciary Committee; Senator Thad Cochran, Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee; the Congressional Research Service (CRS); and the Executive Director of the Mike Mansfield Foundation.

It also met with scholars from the American University and Johns Hopkins University , representatives from some law companies and the World Bank’s capacity building programme.

In Ottawa , the delegation met with Speaker of the House of Commons Andrew Scheer, Senators Terry Mercer and Mac Harb, members of parliament Gordon Brown and Patrick Brown, scholars, lawyers and lecturers from the Ottawa University and overseas Vietnamese in Canada .

At these meetings, partners from the two countries acknowledged the importance of developing relations with Vietnam and agreed to further promote economic, trade and investment cooperation.

They highlighted the need to promote the exchange of visits and share experience in law-making and supervising.

NA Vice Chairman Luu informed US and Canadian parliamentarians about Vietnam’s external policy and discussed measures to enhance relations between the Vietnamese NA and the two legislative bodies, as well as to promote mutual understanding.-VNA
