Ben Tre (VNA) – Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong handed over scholarships and gifts to disadvantaged children in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre on October 1 on the occasion of the Mid-autumn festival.
The 300 scholarships, each worth 1 million VND (44 USD), and gifts were presented to the children in Ben Tre SOS Children’s Village.
The same day, Phong attended a programme called “Thap sang nhung uoc mo” (Lighting up dreams) jointly held by the Vietnam Association for Protection of Children’s Rights, the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin and the Ben Tre province Association for Protection of Children’s Rights.
Addressing the event, the legislator urged all-level Party Committees, authorities, agencies, organisations and the entire society to better materialise guidelines of the Party, and laws and policies of the State towards underprivileged children, while calling for joint efforts to protect children’s rights.
During the programme, the 4th version, up to 367 scholarships, each worth 1 million VND, and gifts were presented to disadvantaged children who have recorded outstanding academic performance in Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Tien Giang and Hau Giang provinces. –VNA
