The National Assembly (NA) passed a resolution on the enforcement of the Constitution (revised) following the adoption of the revised Constitution on the morning of November 28.

The revised Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam will come into force from January 1, 2014.

Under the resolution, laws, ordinances and other legal normative documents issued before the day the Constitution (revised) takes effect must be reviewed and be modified, supplemented or replaced by new ones to abide by the Constitution (revised).

The NA’s Standing Committee, the State President, the Government, the People’s Supreme Court, the People’s Supreme Procuracy, the State Audit Office and relevant agencies will be responsible for enforcing the Constitution (revised) and for timely amending and abolishing documents contrary to the Constitution.

They are also required to adjust their organisational structure, functions and tasks to comply with the amended Constitution as well as taking measures to ensure the enforcement of the constitution (revised).

The NA also asked state agencies at all levels, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and it chapters and concerned agencies to propagate the content of the Constitution (revised), and organise educational campaigns to raise public awareness of the Constitution.

The revised Constitution is the result of hard-working and enthusiastic discussions by all lawmakers, based on crucial input from people from all walks of life. It will provide a sustainable legal framework for Vietnam’s continued integration and development-VNA
