Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee wrapped up its 45th session on February 25, during which the committee agreed that the 11th meeting of the 13th NA will open on March 21.

Speaking at the event, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung announced that the 11th meeting will focus on law making, socio-economic development orientations, personnel work, and on summarising operations of the 13th tenure.

Before the closing ceremony, NA Standing Committee members exchanged opinions on reports on the 2011-2016 working tenure of the Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court and the Procurator General of the People’s Supreme Procuracy.

According to the Chief Judge’s report, in the past 5 years, courts at all levels dealt with 1,781,410 cases of all kinds, out of the 1,809,080 cases received.

Courts paid attention to increasing the quality of litigation during hearings. As such, the rate of verdicts and decisions cancelled or corrected due to judges’ subjectivity reduced by 1.35 percent compared with that of the previous tenure.

However, Head of the NA Law Committee Phan Trung Ly suggested the court sector follow more strictly litigation principles during hearings.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the NA Committee for Ethnic Affairs Ksor Phuoc said that the report should focus on the fight against corruption, and clarify the role of court judgement in preventing corruption.

Regarding the Procurator General’s report, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung asked the Procurator General not to enumerate the works done by the procuracy sector, but to specify experience and lessons for further development.

On the basis of constructive ideas offered by the Committee members, the two reports will be re-drafted before being submitted to the National Assembly at its 11th meeting.-VNA
