Hanoi (VNA) – Japan’s official development assistance (ODA) capital coordinated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has contributed to Vietnam’s socio-economic development in the past years, especially in infrastructure development, said a high-ranking law-maker.

While receiving JICA Vice President Yasushi Tanaka in Hanoi on September 10, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Phung Quoc Hien also praised JICA’s important contributions to Vietnam-Japan relations.

Vietnam has used ODA capital for right purposes and in a transparent and effective manner, he said, adding that the quality of ODA-funded projects has been remarkably improved.

Having affirmed the NA’s support for the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership, Hien said there remained huge potential for the development of friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations as well as their localities.

JICA helped the Vietnamese NA to improve the qualifications of its office staff, thereby enhancing the legislature’s operations, the Vice Chairman said.

Hien suggested JICA continue backing Japan’s economic ties with Vietnam and affirmed that Vietnam always creates favourable conditions for Japanese enterprises to invest in the Southeast Asian country.

For his part, Tanaka said JICA will continue to assist Vietnam in training human resources, improving its investment-business environment and developing its infrastructure.-VNA
