Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s external policy is always treasuring the relations with the US, National Assembly Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty told visiting US congress officials in Hanoi on July 6.

Ty greeted a delegation from the Armed Service Committee of the US House of Representatives, led by Michael Dennis Rogers, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Strategic Forces in Hanoi on July 6, saying the visit offers both sides to frankly talk about issues of mutual concern to promote cooperation across sectors.

Vietnam wants to bolster and deepen the comprehensive partnership with the US in a practical and efficient way bilaterally, regionally and globally, so both can do more for the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world, he said.

Ty suggested the US Congress and Government support accelerating trade ties with Vietnam, improving the capacity of Vietnam’s maritime police, and increasing cooperation in search and rescue and natural disaster relief, as part of efforts to step up the bilateral comprehensive partnership.

He highly valued practical activities taken by the US Congress and Government in addressing the war consequences in Vietnam, wishing the efforts will continue.

He also suggested the two countries design exchange programmes for legislators to exchange experience.

Rogers affirmed that the US always sees Vietnam a close friend and a reliable partner in the region and the world.

He pledged that he will continue supporting the promotion of Vietnam-US cooperation in a more productive manner.-VNA
