President Truong Tan Sang has sent his best regards to war invalids, sick soldiers and families of fallen soldiers and people who have rendered great service to the nation on the occasion of the 65 th War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day.
In his letter dated July 26, Sang hailed the efforts and achievements of war invalids, sick soldiers and families of fallen soldiers. In addition, he also had recognition and deep gratitude for the people who have rendered service to the nation, surmounting pain and loss to progress in their study, production and contributions.
The President requested the Party Committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front, mass organisations and agencies to join the entire people to promote the movement of paying gratitude to improve the material and spiritual lives of those people deserving merit.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung visited an exhibition depicting 300 portraits of heroic Vietnamese mothers nationwide in Hanoi on July 27.
At the event, Dung said he was deeply moved and commended painter Dang Ai Viet on her great work of portraits of heroic mothers.
The portraits are part of 863 works painted during Viet’s journey throughout the country of nearly three years.
The 62-year-old artist has travelled on her motorbike to depict different faces of heroic mothers whose sons and daughters had fallen down during the war.
Viet worked at the Phu Nu Giai Phong newspaper during the war of resistance against the US . With her own experience of war, she thoroughly understands the pain and suffering of wives and mothers whose husbands and children sacrificed their lives for independence and freedom of the country.
After the exhibition, all 300 portraits will be presented to the Vietnam Women’s Museum for display and preservation.
The book “Mothers’ Portraits” with the 300 portraits will be published.
Also on this occasion, Politburo member and Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Dinh The Huynh, who is also head of the CPVCC Commission for Popularisation and Education, paid a floral tribute and offered incense in commemoration of heroes and fallen combatants in central Quang Tri province on July 27.
The same day, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a meeting to mark the 65 th War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day.
He also offered incense at a war martyrs cemetery in the southern province of Hau Giang and presented gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers in Vi Thanh city.
Also on July 27, a delegation of overseas Vietnamese students from 25 countries attended an incense offering ceremony on Con Dao island, the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, in commemoration of heroic martyrs who laid down their lives for national independence.-VNA
