A delegation of the National Assembly led by Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, paid a working visit to China from January 4-8 at the invitation of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress.

On January 5, Phong had a meeting with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress Wu Bangguo.

At the meeting, Phong said that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China is a valuable asset and that the Vietnamese Party, State and people are thankful to China for its great support to Vietnam in national liberation in the past and national construction and defence at present.

Wu Bangguo applauded the Vietnamese delegation’s visit, saying that the visit will further deepen the relationship between the two countries.

He affirmed that China attaches importance to developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam for benefits of the two people and for peace and stability in the region.

The two sides agreed that it is necessary to intensify the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership based on common perception of the two countries’ high-ranking leaders.

They asserted that cooperative relations between the two countries’ legislative bodies should be strengthened through further promoting the exchange of visits, information and experience between the two peoples and mutual support at multilateral forums.

As scheduled, Phong will hold talks with Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress Lu Yongxiang on Jan.6./
