The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand on August 29 held a ceremony to mark the 68th anniversary of the National Day (Sept. 2) in Bangkok.
Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador Ngo Duc Thang recalled the glorious history of the nation in its struggles for national independence as well as the results of the 27-year renewal process which have laid a foundation for Vietnam’s prosperous development and contributed to peace, stability, development and social progress in the region and in the world.
He also looked back the recent solid development of the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries based on the agreements reached at the second Vietnam-Thailand Joint Cabinet Meeting in October 2012 and the spirit of the official visit to Thailand by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong in June 2013.
The establishment of the strategic partnership has elevated the two countries’ ties to a new height, making Vietnam-Thailand relationship one of the important pillars that strongly support the foundation of the ASEAN community by 2015.
The bilateral cooperation has also expanded to security, defence, culture, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges.
Trade and investment relations between two countries have developed quickly, with two-way trade reached nearly 10 billion USD in 2012, increasing one billion USD from the previous year.
Thailand has more than 300 projects with total investment of 6.11 billion USD in Vietnam while the latter has so far poured 11.35 million USD in seven projects in the former.
