Hanoi (VNA) – When the entire population is united, small actions will combine to create great strength, making the country truly a green, clean, beautiful, and sustainable homeland, Acting Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Thang has stressed.
In his speech at a ceremony held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on August 23 to launch a national campaign calling on all citizens to participate in environmental protection, Thang called on local authorities at all levels to mobilise the entire political system, and work closely with the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), mass organisations and civil society to implement the movement.
Under the theme “The Entire Nation Participates in Environmental Protection for a Bright – Green – Clean – Beautiful Vietnam,” the movement is part of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2. It aims to inspire collective responsibility for environmental protection and create a community-driven initiative that will spread from the capital to localities nationwide.
Thang stressed the need to ensure the provision of proper equipment, waste collection points and waste treatment solutions to prevent accumulation and environmental pollution.
Hanoi plays a pioneering role with multiple large-scale clean-up campaigns.
From this example, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is calling for weekly national clean-up drives on Saturday mornings, starting today, as a practical way to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.
The VFF is expected to continue to act as the “conductor” igniting the spirit of community solidarity.
Thang highlighted the significance of the campaign, saying that it is not only a politically and socially significant event, but also an opportunity for agencies, organisations, and citizens to demonstrate their responsibility and love for the nation through protecting the environment.
Protecting the environment means protecting the health and lives of citizens and future generations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will continue to coordinate with other ministries, sectors and localities to synchronously and effectively implement the campaign, building a clean living environment and a sustainably developing country, said Thang.
He called on every citizen, family, and community to raise awareness and voluntarily adopt civilised habits by avoiding littering, disposing of waste properly at designated times and places, and actively participating in environmental cleanup activities at homes, workplaces, schools, streets, canals, rivers, lakes, and beaches.
Authorities at all levels need to mobilise the entire political system, closely coordinate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), mass organisations, and social groups to perform the movement in an effective manner, Thang said.
He hailed Hanoi’s pioneering role in this work, highlighting the large-scale, well-organised cleanup campaigns carried out in recent times.
The official called on all citizens, agencies, units, and schools nationwide to participate in weekly cleanup campaigns every Saturday morning.
He called on socio-political organisations to promote their core, pioneering and proactive roles in implementing the movement, with the VFF promoting solidarity and leading the community to join hands for a green environment.
Thang emphasised that the young generation of Vietnam should turn their enthusiasm into practical actions, turning every road, beach, and river into a green, creative, and vibrant youth project. Women should turn every family and residential area into a "green home" to multiply love and responsibility for the environment.
He urged veterans to continue setting a shining example, inspiring discipline, determination, and a sense of responsibility so that the community can maintain a clean and healthy living environment.
Farmers need to take the lead in clean production, so that villages and fields become truly prosperous, peaceful, and livable. Workers and labourers should turn every factory and workshop into a ‘green fortress,’ contributing to developing a modern and environmentally friendly industry.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is committed to continuing close coordination with other ministries, sectors, and localities to advise the government to implement the movement in a coordinated and effective manner, Thang stated./.
