The Prime Minister has approved a national foreign news broadcasting plan by 2020, to expand coverage throughout the globe.

Under the plan, a national foreign news radio service will be formed with a total 20 hours per day and a national foreign news TV channel, VTV-World, will be gradually introduced broadcasting for a minimum of 8 hours a day.

By 2015, the country hopes to provide satellite coverage to North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Oceania .

By 2020, the country will ensure global satellite coverage of all foreign news broadcasting programmes. The national foreign news radio and television channels are scheduled to be on air 24 hours a day.

Foreign news radio and TV programmes that serve the public interest will be prioritised by the State for investment. They include programmes produced by Radio the Voice of Vietnam’s VOV5, Vietnam Television’s VTV4, VTC10 from VTC Digital Television and Vnews from the Vietnam News Agency.

The plan also includes guidelines for developing and improving the quality of the content of all foreign broadcasting services.

The new services will broadcast programmes on numerous topics in many different languages including English, French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, Spanish and Portuguese.

The contents of these programmes will provide information on the guidelines and policies of the Party, State , Vietnam ’s potential for development and cooperation, the land, its people, history, culture and the nation’s cultural values.

They will focus on presenting Vietnam’s foreign policies and its viewpoints on regional and international issues, as well as providing regular updated news on the country’s foreign economic relations, investment environment, trade and tourism promotions and international integration./.
