Phu Tho (VNA) – Head coach of the national men’s football team Park Hang-seo met with more than 1,000 students in Viet Tri city of the northern province of Phu Tho on May 9.

The event formed part of the “Give a dream” programme initiated by the coach from the Republic of Korea (RoK), to provide equipment and support for disadvantaged children across the country to pursue their passion for football.

Various gifts were presented to needy students in Phu Tho and the neighbouring province of Tuyen Quang.

Coach Park also joined a football training session and played friendly matches with the students afterwards.

Since he became head coach of the men’s national and U23 football team, the RoK coach has helped Vietnamese football gain historic achievements, namely as the runner-up of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Championship in 2018, one of semi-finalists of 2018 Asian Games, and the winner of the AFF Suzuki Cup later that year.

Vietnam also entered the quarterfinals of the 2019 Asian Cup and most recently, the U23 squad won all of its matches at the qualifying round of the 2020 AFC U23 Championship.

The national team will compete at the King’s Cup in Thailand from June 5-8 while the U23s will play a friendly against Myanmar on June 7 in Hanoi. –VNA
