Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) completed its twin target of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining production and business in the first quarter of this year, according to its Chairman Le Minh Chuan.

In the period, 22-25 percent of the corporation’s major targets were fulfilled, with 10.4 million tonnes of coal churned out, 11.63 million tonnes sold and over 30.21 trillion VND (1.28 billion USD) in revenue gained.

The corporation contributed 6.6 trillion VND to the State budget, completing 35 percent of its yearly target, up 12 percent year-on-year.

Thanks to new road header machines, Vang Danh Coal JSC, a subsidiary of Vinacomin, doubled its mining productivity to more than 945,000 tonnes of coal, fulfilling 28 percent of its yearly target.

According to its deputy director Trinh Van An, although the company had set a target of producing 860,000 tonnes, it will strive to churn out 900,000 tonnes to ensure supply for coal-fired thermal power plants during the dry season.

To reach the target of producing 462,500 tonnes of coal in the second quarter, Mong Duong Coal JSC, another subsidiary of Vinacomin, will take flexible measures, including incentives towards labourers and cooperation with the Vietnam Coal and Mineral College in personnel training.

In the next quarter, Vinacomin expects to churn out 10.2 million tonnes of coal, 345,000 tonnes of alumina, 29,100 tonnes of refined copper ore and 2.76 billion Kwh, and sell 12 million tonnes of coal.

Given the complex developments of COVID-19, Vinacomin has taken various measures to prevent the disease and maintain production and business.

At the same time, the corporation has donated 15 billion VND to the fight against the pandemic, while its subsidiaries have provided financial support and medical equipment./.
