The 2013 Vietnam Para-Games opened in Hanoi on July 24 with the participation of 833 disabled athletes from 31 provinces and cities across the country.
The athletes will compete in six sports -- track and field, swimming, table tennis, badminton, weightlifting and chess for over 700 sets of medal.
In the tournament, which will run through July 28, track and field encompasses 290 divisions -- the largest number of competition categories -- while chess has only 16 competition divisions – the least.
General Secretary of Vietnam Paralympic Association Vu The Phiet said through this tournament, potential athletes will be called to a national team to attend the 7th ASEAN Paragames in Myanmar in 2014.
