Vietnam lost 0-2 to a determined student team from the Republic of Korea at the 2009 HCM City International Football Tournament on Oct. 22 at the Thong Nhat Stadium in HCM City.

Kim Byong-oh edged past Vietnam’s defender Nguyen Minh Duc to open the score just before the half-time whistle.

The match was settled in the last minute of regular time when Kim again outpaced Vu Nhu Thanh to double the score and destroy any hope Vietnam had of levelling the game.

With Singapore easily beating Turkmenistan 4-2, Vietnam had to win to have any chance of taking the title.

At present, Singapore is leading the tournament with six points from two wins. A draw in the final match against Vietnam on Oct. 24 would be enough for the Singaporeans to take the title for the first time./.
