As many as 170 domestic and foreign businesses are displaying their goods at the 2013 timber and forest product fair, which opened in Quy Nhon city, the central province of Binh Dinh on June 28.
Most of the businesses are from the country’s four biggest wood processing localities, namely Binh Dinh, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, along with three companies from the Lao province of Champassak .
Organised by the Vietnam Timber and Forest Product Association (VIFORES), the biennial event aims to promote exchange and cooperation.
The six-day function also creates a chance for businesses to honour the sector’s traditional values and help them build, develop and promote their brand names.
On the same day, the VIFORES held its third congress. Former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Van Dang was elected as its Chairman.
Vietnam is Asia’s second largest exporter of wood products with 4.67 billion USD in export turnover last year. The country expects to earn 5.5 billion USD this year, mostly from exports to the US, the European Union and Japan.-VNA
