A total of 43 people have died or gone missing in northern mountainous provinces in July due to natural calamities, reported the General Statistics Office.

Five provinces and cities were hit hard by floods and whirlwinds on a large scale, which destroyed nearly 2,000 ha of rice and food crops and 69 homes, causing damage worth more than 280 billion VND (15.7 million USD).

Bac Kan province suffered the most with property damages amounting to 105 billion VND and 13 fatalities, followed by Cao Bang with 97 billion VND, Ha Giang 16.5 billion VND, Son La 25 billion VND and Lai Chau 16.8 billion VND.

In response, local authorities have implemented effective measures including repairing irrigation works and transport system and providing emergency support to help disasters victims overcome the aftermaths and return to stable life./.
