Over 20 overseas and Vietnamese composers will get together to play a number of concerts of mainly contemporary music entitled “New Music Meets”, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from Oct. 15-20.

They come from German, Sweden , Denmark , Scotland and Canada and will accompany several traditional Vietnamese artists to give two concerts in Hanoi and two in Ho Chi Minh City , including an international impromptu performance by a mixture of artists.

The 2009 “New Music Meeting” will be held as a premise to an annual Hanoi New Music Festival, which will be held from 2010 to help enhance training programmes for music students in Vietnam , as well as set up a network between foreign and Vietnamese contemporary artists and boost cooperation with popular groups of musicians from around the world.

Its is a joint effort by the Hanoi-based Goeth Institute, the Swedish International Development Agency, the Danish Cultural Exchange Fund, the UNESCO Centre for Culture and Sports and the British Council./.
