The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) on August 5 signed an agreement to grant and extend representative office establishment licences to three foreign non-governmental organisations.

On this occasion, the three organisations, Operation Smile, France ’s GIP-ADETEF and the UK ’s Plan International, committed to donating around 36 million USD to Vietnam for the 2010-2013 period.

Since it was founded in Vietnam in 1989, Operational Smile has provided medical checks-up and surgery to more than 20,000 adolescents and children as well as assisted thousands of medical experts. The organisation has also pledged to provide long-term support to Vietnam to improve the nation’s free medical service.

Meanwhile, GIP-ADETEF has actively assisted the Vietnamese Ministries of Finance and Planning and Investment and the General Statistics Office in international economic cooperation and improved Vietnamese agencies’ training capability in public administration and statistics.

Plan International has spent around 10 million USD each year on Vietnamese children’s care and protection in almost 20 cities and provinces./.
