The new orchid was discovered in a defile close to the southwestern part of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range by Japanese professor Bunzo Hayata from Tokyo Royal University during his recent botanical expedition. It is named Hayata glandulifera after him.
The orchid has bell-shaped flowers without peduncles and trunk without leaves./.
