Old editions of newspapers are currently being displayed at an exhibition in Hanoi to mark the 85th anniversary of Vietnam 's Revolutionary Press Day (June 21).
The exhibit offers visitors with a chance to view the early editions of Vietnam 's first publications.
The event, which is being hosted by sachxua.net, features more than 100 newspapers and magazines that were published between 1865 and 1954.
According to a member of the event's organisation board, Le Tuan Anh, the display showcases only the first period of the development of the Vietnamese press, which was dominated primarily by the publication of revolutionary periodicals.
The first national Vietnamese-language newspaper, Gia Dinh, which was released on April 15, 1865 in Sai Gon, is being showcased at the event.
A copy of the first northern newspaper, Dai Nam Dang Co Nhat Bao, is also on display. Released in 1907, the bilingual publication was printed in Vietnamese and Han Chinese characters.
The exhibit also feature a historic copy of the French paper, Le Paria (Pariah), which was founded by a group of patriots that included Nguyen Ai Quoc (President Ho Chi Minh). The Paris-based newspaper, which focused on issues and conflicts in France 's colonies, was first printed on April 1, 1922.
"Almost all of the samples on display at the event were collected by employees from sachxua.net," Tuan said.
A lecture about the contribution of the newspapers during the exhibit's respective historical period was delivered on June 15. Several scholars and veteran journalists contributed to the discussion.
The display is being held at the Hanoi Library at 47 Ba Trieu street and is open to the public until June 20./.
