Quang Tri (VNA) – The national target programme on building new-style rural areas in 2016-2020 has completed its set targets, it was said at a conference of the programme’s coordinating offices at all levels nationwide held in the central province of Quang Tri on May 29.

Under the programme, more than 5,170 communes, or 58.2 percent of total communes in the country, have met standards for new-style rural areas. Over 2,110 trillion VND (90.44 billion USD at current exchange rate) have been mobilized from all sources to implement the programme.

The country aims to have at least 80 percent of all communes recognised as new-style rural areas by 2025, and all the remaining communes should achieve at least 15 criteria.

Addressing the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam urged the participants to discuss supplements and orientations for the programme in the 2021-2025 period.

Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee Ha Sy Dong said the province will focus on restructuring the agricultural sector as part of building new-style rural areas. He noted that production development and higher income for the people are the factors that decide the success of the programme./.
