Authorities from the central province of Nghe An decided to use explosives to uncover victims of a landslide that took place in Nam Thanh commune, in Yen Thanh district on April 1.

By 8pm the same day, the provincial rescue team found 16 dead bodies under the heap of rocks, while five injured victims have been sent to hospital.

Witnesses said that, when workers were digging for rocks on Len Co mountain, they were suddenly covered by soil and stones in the landslide that happened at 8am.

According to Nguyen Tien Loi, chairman of the People’s Committee of Yen Thanh district, local police, soldiers and residents are searching for the remaining two victims but they faced the risk of further landslides./.
