Ngọc Sơn Temple (Temple of the Jade Mountain) is one of Hanoi’s must-see destinations. Built in the 19th century, this building was originally called Ngọc Sơn Pagoda, but was later renamed as Ngọc Sơn Temple.

This temple is dedicated to Văn Xương Đế Quân, considered to be one of the brightest stars in Vietnam's literary and intellectual circles. National heroTrần Hưng Đạo, who was renowned for his bravery in the battle against the Yuan Dynasty in the 13th century, was worshipped here as well.

In 1865, a Confucian scholar named Nguyễn Văn Siêu was in charge of the temple’s renovation. He had 2 big letters “Phúc” (Happiness) and Lộc (Prosperity) written on the entrance, hoping to bring good fortune to people.

On Ngọc Bội Mountain is a large pen-shaped tower built with stones, with 3 engraved letters “Tả Thanh Thiên” (to write on the blue sky), known as Tháp Bút (Pen Tower)./.
