The construction of Nhat Tan bridge, one of the national key infrastructure projects, will be put into full operation by the end of 2014 as scheduled, according to the contractors.

The partnership of IHI and Sumitomo Mitsui of Japan made the pledge to Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang on February 21 when Thang and Lao Minister of Public Works Sommad Pholsena visited the bridge’s construction site on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.

Vice Managing Director of the contractor partnership Kenji Matsuno said engineers and workers have been working hard, even during the traditional Lunar New Year, the most important festival of Vietnamese, to ensure the progress and quality of the work.

With a total span of 1,500 metres, the bridge construction is divided into three packages. The first package covering the building of the main bridge has had almost 60 percent of workload completed. The two other packages building roads connecting sides of the bridge to the existing roads have had about 36 percent and 66 percent of workload done, respectively.-VNA
