Nippon Steel to build plant in Vietnam

Japan’s biggest steel group, Nippon Steel, is to build a steel mill in southern Vietnam.

This will be Nippon Steel’s first plant overseas.

In mid June, Nippon Steel, along with the Vietnam Steel Corporation (VSC) and five other Japanese companies set up a joint venture in Vietnam to build and operate a steel mill.

The plant is scheduled to be operational by May 2011, with an estimated output of 60,000 tonnes of steel a year.

The JV, the Nippon Steel Pipe Vietnam Co., has an investment of 15 million USD, to which Nippon Steel contributes 51 percent and the VSC contributes 10 percent./.
