– As of 11:00 pm on October 2 (local time), there was no information about Vietnamese casualties in the shootings in Las Vegas city, Nevada State, which occurred one day earlier killing at least 59 people and injuring 527 others, according to the Embassy of Vietnam in the US.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh has directed the constant update on the gunfire and close contact with the Las Vegas Department of Police and Department of Foreign Office to follow the situation of the Vietnamese community in the city.

He noted that Las Vegas authorities pledge to quickly provide information for the Vietnamese Embassy through a hotline if they discover any Vietnamese casualties, be they Vietnamese tourists or expatriates.

It is reported that many Vietnamese were working in the area where the shootings occurred at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. However, most of them did services such as cleaning and dealing cards while the music concert was held outdoor. Therefore, the probability of Vietnamese casualties is not high.

US police have identified the gunman as Stephen Paddock and they are investigating the cause of the deadliest shooting in the modern American history.

A similar case occurred in Orlando, Florida State, in 2016, killing 49 people.-VNA
