The Norwegian Government has provided a grant worth about 2.2 million USD for a project to survey and clear unexploded ordnance (UXO) in the Lao southern province of Saravane.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed in Vientiane last week between the National Regulatory Authority (NRA) and the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), according to Lao news agency (KPL).

Under the MoU, the project will be carried out in the 2009-2011 period.

NPA has worked to deal with the UXO problems in Laos since 1997. Initially, NPA supported UXO Laos with technical assistance and enhancement of management capacity.

This year, it will continue to support UXO Laos in Khammouane province./.
