During herthree-day stay, the Norwegian PM held talks with her Vietnamesecounterpart Nguyen Tan Dung and had meetings with President Truong TanSang and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.
Bothcountries vowed to increase efforts to achieve all MillenniumDevelopment Goals, while strengthening cooperation in the framework ofthe Post-2015 Global Development Agenda.
They willcontinue expanding bilateral trade and investment affiliation,especially in sea-based economy, maritime and energy. They reaffirmedcommitments of the two Governments to work for the early conclusion ofnegotiations on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the EuropeanUnion.
At the same time, both sides concurred to promoteexchanges of delegations at all levels, especially at high level, thussharing opinions on issues of mutual concern.
The twosides agreed to continue with regular political consultations and humanrights dialogues, and coordination in reducing emission fromdeforestation and forest degradation through the United Nations’ REDDprogramme in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, they will strengthen bilateral cooperation at regional and multilateral forums.
Vietnam and Norway also reaffirmed commitment to respecting andenhancing the role of international law for ensuring peace, stabilityand prosperity as well as strengthening security, safety and freedom ofmaritime, aviation and trade, and the fight against piracy and armedrobbery at sea in conformity with principles of international law,including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
During her visit, the Norwegian PM paid floral tribute to President HoChi Minh at his Mausoleum and laid a wreath at the Fallen Soldiers’Monument in Hanoi.
She also addressed an internationalconference on Vietnam’s achievements in realising Millennium DevelopmentGoals, and inspected a number of the UNICEF-funded education and healthcare projects in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.-VNA
