Public officials, civil servants war invalids, war martyr’s relatives and poor households in HCM City are receiving Tet gifts from the municipal administration, according to the HCM City People’s Committee.

The city has planned to spend over 200 billion VND (11 million USD) from the municipal budget on Tet gifts to help local residents celebrate their Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, according to Nguyen Van Xe, deputy director of the city’s department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

In particular, State employees in the administrative sector from the municipal level to ward or town level will be given the gifts, each worth 600,000 VND (32 USD), 100,000 VND (5USD) more than last year, he added. Beneficiaries include military officers, policemen, doctors and teachers.

Gifts for war invalids, war martyr’s families, retired officials, veterans suffering from diseases, dioxin-affected soldiers and their children will be worth 500,000 VND (27 USD) or 750,000 VND (40 USD) each, depending on their health.

The most expensive Tet gifts are worth 1.2 million VND (64 USD) each. The packages are for senior revolutionaries, Vietnamese heroic mothers, former Government officials and war invalids with serious wounds.

In addition, over 2,700 poor households with an annual income of less than 6 million VND (320 USD) will be given gifts on this occasion said Xe.

At present, over 100 groups of representatives from the municipal committee and districts have been visiting and delivering gifts to beneficiaries.
