According to Suhri Sinaga, spokesperson of National Search and Rescue Agency, the incident occurred when the passenger boat carrying 24 people suddenly capsized when attempting to cross Kapuan River in Naga Seberuang village of Kapuas Hulu district.
Eleven people have been rescued, he said, adding that search and rescue for the missing persons are underway.
The weak implementation of safety regulations frequently triggers incidents in Indonesia, a vast archipelago nation home to over 17,000 islands.-VNA
