The Vietnam Embassy in the Republic of Korea (RoK) is working closely with the RoK side in investigations over the murder of a Vietnamese bride by her husband in Gyeongsangbuk province.

The embassy was reported on the death of Nguyen Thi Phuong, 28, by police of Cheongdo district, Gyeongsangbuk province, on December 17.

Phuong was strangled by her 42-year-old husband, Lee Cheong Su, who has mental illness records and got divorced once. The couple got married in 2006.

The embassy sent diplomatic notes on December 18 to the Ministries of Gender Equality and Foreign Affairs, the Presidential Office, and the National Police Agency, to inform of the case and ask for proper measures to be taken.

The initial reason behind the murder may be family conflicts caused by language barriers.

Phuong is the eighth Vietnamese bride killed in 2014 in the RoK and the second in Gyeongsangbuk province so far.

Her mother and two sisters are also living in the RoK.-VNA
