Malaysian police has said that one of the two passengers using stolen passport on board the missing MH370 flight has been identified as a 19-year-old Iranian with no link to terrorism.
Malaysia's national police chief Khalid Abu Bakar told a press conference on March 11 that the man is not likely to be a member of any terrorist group, and he is believed to try to migrate to Germany.
He added that the identity of the other suspect is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, the Thai police also said both the passengers who used the stolen passports to board the flight are just seeking to take refuge in European nations. According to this source, two Iranians bought the tickets at a travel agent in Pattaya, asking for the cheapest routes to Frankfurt and Copenhagen from Kuala Lumpur. One of the Iranian was identified as Hasem who is widely known in Pattaya, and the other, Kazem Ali, was believed to be in Iran.,
In Tehran, Iran’s spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said Iran is closely following the case and willing to cooperate with Malaysian agencies concerned for investigation.
The search for the Malaysian flight MH370, now in its fourth day, has not produced any trace of the Boeing 777-200 plane with 239 people on board that vanished about an hour into a flight to Beijing on early March 8.
The search area has also been expanded from a 50-nautical mile radius from the point the plane was last seen on radar to 100 nautical miles.
The focus now is on the West Peninsular of Malaysia at the Straits of Malacca, said Malaysia Airlines chief executive Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.-VNA
